AUSTRALIA – Update on Forthcoming Changes to Permanent Employer-Sponsored Skilled Visas

The Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) have begun to clarify the changes to permanent employer-sponsored skilled visa programmes that were announced on 18 April 2017.

Significantly, DIBP has announced transitional or ‘grandfathering’ arrangements to permit individuals who held, or had applied for, a subclass 457 visa on 18 April 2017 to access certain existing provisions under the Temporary Residence Transition stream.

UKRAINE – European Council Adopts Schengen Visa Waiver for Ukrainian Nationals

On 11 May 2017, the European Council adopted a proposal on visa liberalisation for Ukrainian nationals, allowing Ukrainians to travel to the Schengen Area without obtaining visas.

Under the visa exemption, Ukrainians who hold a biometric passport will have the right to enter the EU visa-free for 90 days in any 180-day period, for business, tourist or family purposes, but not to work or study.

UKRAINE – Visa Issuance Rules Amended

Effective 16 April 2017, Resolution No. 118 of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine introduces online visa applications, simplifies the requirements for visa invitation letters, reduces the time allowed for consulates to process and issue a visa and reduces the consular visa application fee, amongst other changes.

SAUDI ARABIA – Significant Visa Fee Increases Imminent

Effective 2 October 2016, The Ministry of Labour in Saudi Arabia has announced a sharp increase in visa application fees, and introduced new fees in some cases.
