INDONESIA – Further Details of Upcoming Regulations for Hiring Foreign Workers

Further details are now available of the new regulations for hiring foreign workers (see our previous alert here).

The Ministry of Manpower (MOM) has published Regulation No. 10/2018, but there the Directorate General of Immigration has not yet published its new regulations, and there is still no implementation date for the new system.

PHILIPPINES – Additional Documents Required for Alien Employment Permit Applications

Effective 2 April 2018, the Department of Labour and Employment (DOLE) has confirmed additional documentary requirements for Alien Employment Permit (AEP) applications.

INDONESIA – Simplified Work Permit Application Process for Oil and Gas Companies

Effective immediately, oil and gas companies that intend to hire foreign workers in Indonesia no longer require RPTKA (request for approval to hire foreign workers) or IMTA (work permit) recommendation letters from the Directorate General of Oil and Gas (“Dirjen MIGAS”) and can now apply for a work permit directly at the Ministry of Manpower.

This change should significantly decrease processing times for work permits in the oil and gas sector.

GHANA – Immigration Service Requires Medical Certificates be Obtained from its Headquarters in Ghana

The Ghana Immigration Service (GIS) has posted a brief announcement of a new policy, effective 15 February 2018, requiring all new applicants for work and residence permits to obtain medical certificates from the GIS medical facility at its headquarters in Ghana.

SOUTH AFRICA – Update on Zimbabwe Exemption Permit (ZEP) Applications

On 31 January 2018, the Department of Home Affairs (DHA) extended to 15 February 2018 the closing date for payments and submission of supporting documents and biometrics for applications for the new Zimbabwean Exemption Permit (ZEP), at one of the ten designated Visa Application Centres.

This deadline had previously been extended to 31 January 2018. The extended deadline is not for new applications, which had to be submitted by 30 November 2017.
