CHINA – Optional Mainland Residence Card Introduced for Residents of Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan

As we reported in August, the Chinese government has abolished the work permit requirement for residents of Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan (“HMT residents”).

Effective 1 September 2018, HMT residents can voluntarily apply for a new mainland residence card.

SPAIN – New Document Criteria for Residence Card Applications in Madrid

Effective immediately, an applicant for a residence card in Madrid whose passport does not bear an entry stamp affixed by the Spanish border control authorities must instead submit a statement of entry (“declaración de entrada”).

SPAIN – New Procedures for Fast-Track Residence Cards at Central Police Station in Madrid

Effective 20 October 2017, fast-track applicants for residence cards and número de extranjero (NIE) certificates, at the central police station located at San Felipe in Madrid, are no longer able to make appointments in advance.

Instead, officers will provide application numbers to the first 30 applicants to attend each day. Foreign nationals who do not receive a number cannot submit an application that day.

In addition, applicants must now appear in person at the police station, and third-party representatives can no longer appear on the applicant’s behalf.
