BREXIT – Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and UK Agree on Citizens’ Rights After Brexit [UPDATED]

The UK has reached a separation agreement with Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway (‘the EEA EFTA States’), including a deal on citizens’ rights.

On 8 February 2019, the UK, Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway reached an EEA EFTA No Deal Citizens’ Rights Agreement to protect the rights of UK nationals living in the EEA EFTA states and EEA EFTA nationals in the UK, in a no deal scenario.

ROMANIA – Changes to the Immigration Rules

Effective 9 November 2018, Law no. 247 introduces some changes to the immigration rules which may affect foreign national workers.

The legislative changes are being studied by the immigration authorities who are expected to release further instructions implementing the changes in the near future.

GERMANY – Closer Scrutiny of Academic Qualifications for Blue Card Applications

The German immigration authorities (Ausländerbehörde) will require official evaluation of university diplomas submitted in support of EU Blue Card applications, according to the Frankfurt authorities, who are already implementing this new rule.

AUSTRIA – Authentication of Diplomas Now Required for Initial Red-White-Red Card Plus Applications for Dependents of Red-White-Red Card Holders

Effective immediately, university diplomas and school leaving certificates submitted in support of initial Red-White-Red Card Plus (RWR Card Plus) applications by dependent family members of Red-White-Red Card (RWR Card) holders must be legalised and then authenticated under the ENIC NARIC framework.

Previously, ENIC NARIC recognition of university diplomas was not required for these applicants.
