SOUTH AFRICA – Requirements for Travelling with Children Eased

Effective 1 December 2018, the “First Amendment of the Immigration Regulations, 2014” eases the requirements for parents and legal guardians travelling with children through South African ports of entry, which were first introduced in 2015.

Changes have also been made to the rules on spouses, work visas and residence, while many more proposed changes to the visa rules are expected to be introduced in the coming months, but were not included in this amendment.

UKRAINE – New Biometric Entry Procedures Introduced

Effective 1 January 2018, Ukraine has introduced a system of biometric border control for nationals of 70 countries, including Russians, entering the country via international ports of entry. The new system is expected to cause some delays for affected travellers.

UNITED KINGDOM – Registered Traveller Service Expansion

The government has announced an expansion to its Registered Traveller Service, which facilitates faster entry at the UK border.

Effective 5 October 2017, business travellers and frequent visitors from 15 additional countries are eligible to apply for membership of the service.

IRELAND – Delays in Employment Permit Processing, GNIB Registration Appointment Booking and Security Checks on Entry

There are currently severe delays in the processing of Employment Permits and in obtaining appointments for GNIB Registration in County Dublin.

There has also been a tightening up of border controls causing longer security clearance times at ports of entry into Ireland.
