COLOMBIA – Mercosur Visa Suspended for Chilean Nationals

Effective immediately, the Colombian Ministry of Foreign Affairs will no longer grant migrant visas to Chilean nationals on the basis of the Mercosur Agreement. This is understood to be a reciprocal measure, as Chile does not allow Colombian nationals to obtain residence on the basis of the Mercosur Agreement.

ARGENTINA – Strike Expected to Affect Public Services

A general strike called by several large trade unions for 24 and 25 September 2018, in protest at the government’s economic policy, is expected to affect services provided by the National Immigration Office (DNM), the National Civil Registry (RENAPER), the Social Security Agency (ANSES), the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the National Registry of Recidivism (RNR) among others.

ARGENTINA – Major Fee Increases for Most Immigration Processes

The Argentine Immigration Department is introducing a major increase in the fees for most immigration-related processes. Effective 6 June 2018, various governments fees for immigration processes – such as Transitory, Temporary, and Permanent Residence applications, Entry Permit applications, renewal applications, and change of category applications – will increase an average of 300 percent, up to 500 percent for some applications.

New Data in Immiguru: Peru – Temporary Residence for Argentinians

We’re very pleased to announce that the Temporary Residence process for Argentinians moving to Peru has been added to Immiguru.

Argentinians do not require work authorisation to take up employment in Peru, but are required to apply for residence visas (very similar to Mercosur residence visas) as per a bilateral agreement between Peru and Argentina. This is a post arrival change of immigration status from a visitor to a temporary residence holder. This visa can be also applied for through the corresponding Argentinian consulate abroad.

We’re very pleased to announce that the Post Arrival Temporary Residence process to Peru was added to Immiguru this month.

Nationals of the following members or associate members countries of MERCOSUR (Brazil, Uruguay, Bolivia, Colombia, Chile, Ecuador) do not require work authorisation to take up employment in Peru, but are required to apply for MERCOSUR residence visas. This visa can be applied for through the Consulate, or post arrival in Peru as a change of status from a visitor to a MERCOSUR temporary residence permit holder.
