CHINA – Shanghai Exit-Entry Bureau – Planned Closure for System Upgrade

The Shanghai Entry-Exit Expert Bureau will suspend all immigration applications between 22 and 25 December 2017, as the national immigration system undergoes an upgrade.

Please note:

  • During this period, the Bureau will not accept any new or extension applications or issue any permits via its headquarters, branches, self-service spots, on-line service or WeChat;
  • For already submitted, pending applications, processing time will be prolonged by 8-12 working days;

  • Applicants for work and residence permits and visas, and their employers in China, should allow extra time for applications to be processed.

MEXICO – Reminder: Failure to Report Change of Address May Lead to Financial Penalty

Mexico City Aerial ViewEmployers of foreign nationals in Mexico are reminded that all foreign residents in Mexico must notify the Mexican National Immigration Institute (INM) of their personal address within 90 days of any change of address due to the recent earthquakes in Mexico, or for any other reason.

Failure to comply with this obligation may subject the foreign resident to the payment of a fine.

MEXICO – Immigration Offices Closed [UPDATED]

*UPDATE* The suspension of activities at the National Immigration Institute (INM) has been extended for another week. The INM will reopen on Monday 2 October 2017.

Due to the magnitude 7.1 earthquake that struck Mexico City, the State of Mexico, Morelos and Puebla on Tuesday 19 September 2017, the offices of the National Immigration Institute (INM) are closed and have suspended activities. INM offices are expected to reopen on Monday 25 September.

The INM has also extended application deadlines which applicants could not otherwise meet due to the closures.

  • Employers should plan for delays in the processing of residence applications at the INM, and disruptions to their employees’ travel plans to and within Mexico.
