NEW ZEALAND – Online Processing of Medical Documents To Cut Application Times

Effective 24 November 2014, Immigration New Zealand (INZ) has joined e-Medical, an online immigration health processing system.

eMedical is used by approved panel physicians and radiologists to submit medical and chest x-ray certificates directly and securely to Immigration New Zealand, replacing the former paper-based method of completing medical certificates.

Eliminating paper medical certificates should help Immigration New Zealand cut application processing times, reducing administrative overhead costs and client follow-up queries.

The service has initially been made available, from November 2014, in Cambodia, Singapore, South Africa, Thailand, United Arab Emirates, and Vietnam.  In January 2015, the service will be rolled out to all countries except New Zealand.  Lastly, in March it will be rolled out in New Zealand.

Background

About 20 percent of visa applicants require a physical health assessment by approved panel physicians in their home country, as part of their application.

eMedical was developed by Australia’s Department of Immigration and Border Protection (DIBP) and Citizenship and Immigration Canada.
